Exhibition 2020; Sold Mate (voted as student's Favorite)

In this module, Stage and Exhibition Management, we are tasked to curate an exhibition from scratch. Our theme was 'Sold Mate' which is a word play of 'Soul Mate". The cohort has also voted this to be their favorite exhibition.

  • Target Audience: All students and staff of Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

  • Time Frame: The drafting started two months before the deadline, and we managed to complete it 3 days before it was due.

  • Challenges: The biggest challenge faced would be the lack of time. Despite early plannings, we have a lot to do and some of us have outside commitments. I also found it hard to make the whole exhibition engaging and interactive.

  • SolutionsHence, to counter that problem, we stayed back in school almost every day for 1 week to make sure everything was on the right track. As a group, we have also constantly asked our lecturer for advice and tips to make the flow of our exhibition smooth.

  • Takeaways: My takeaway from this experience would be that time management and effective communication is very important. Despite our lack of time management, we managed to pull it through as we communicated with one another when a problem arises. This has saved us a lot of time and unnecessary argument. This is definitely something we have to learn in order for us to survive in this industry.

Verve Posters 2019

For this module, Publicity and Design, we were tasked to design posters for this year's Verve 2019. The colour scheme and font used are in line with our retro theme.

  • Target Audience: People of all ages.

  • Time Frame:  Started drafting one-month before the deadline, and managed to complete it one week before.

  • Method: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

  • Challenges: I found it hard to use Adobe InDesign as I was not familiar with some of the functions.

  • Solutions: After a few tries and struggles, I have managed to master InDesign with the help from tutorial videos.

  • Takeaways: Other than mastering InDesign, I have also learnt from my lecturer that it is vital that all of my texts should not be too wordy as it might not be aesthetically pleasing. After this assignment, I look forward to creating more posters.

Year 2

Sponsorship Proposal 2019

Year 2

For Resource Development assignment 1, each group has to come with a sponsorship proposal package and present our ideas during a twenty minutes presentation.  My group has chosen Prudential as we believe that they have a very keen interest in sponsoring an arts event.  Our final work was sent to prudential for pitching.

  • Target audience

    • To Prudential

  • Time frame

    • Our group started working on this one week before the deadline, 21st May 19.

  • Challenges

    • Our group had a hard time finding Prudential's vision and linking it up with Verve 2019, as it requires a higher level of thinking.

  • Solutions: However, at the end of the day, we managed to find the linkage, through thorough research and presented our idea. I was also very proactive in asking our lecturer for advice to help my team.

  • Takeaways:

    • Through this assignment, I have learnt more about the different type of sponsors and sponsorship, and how to come out with benefits that sponsors might like. Teamwork and communication were also very crucial as, without any one of our effort and ideas, we might not have been chosen.

Social Media Campaign Arc 2019

Year 1

For this module, Art Market, we were tasked to design social media posts for our marketing plan.

  • Target Audience: Parents with young children

  • Time Frame: Our group started the process 2 months before the deadline.

  • Method: Canva and Illustrator

  • Takeaways: I have enjoyed the whole process of designing and crafting out social media posts.  My groupmates and I had fun bouncing off ideas, coming out with the main theme and colour scheme.

Year 1

Dance Outreach Exhibition 2018

In our final semester of 1.2, we were tasked to do a traditional dance outreach exhibition for our module, Dance and Performing Arts (DANPER).  The objectives were to come with an outreach activity and infographic poster to engage and educate the public on the chosen dance form. Our group has decided on Talchum, a traditional Korean dance form, as we found it very unique and attractive.

  • Target audience: Ngee Ann Polytechnic students and lecturers.

  • Time frame: It took us about two months to complete (inclusive of planning and designing of posters and props).

  • Challenges: Firstly, we struggled with coming out with an interactive and educational activity. There were a lot of factors we have to consider in order to make it effective. This was also one of my few attempt in using photoshop and canva, and it was not easy. Secondly, on the day itself, it was hard to get people to come to our booth as everyone was rushing to get their lunch.

  • Solutions: So, my team and I asked around to get some feedback from both our peers and lectures before making changes on it.  On the day itself, despite the lack of traffic, we persevere on and try our best to engage with the students.

  •  Takeaways: My biggest takeaway would be the setting up the frame of the exhibition, as it was my first time and a useful skill to have. The other learning point would be the fact that I stepped out of my comfort zone and try my best to engage with others.  Overall, it was a fun and fruitful experience.

Theatre Educational Package 2018

Theatre and drama's final assignment was for us to create an educational package based on famous individual, for children aged seven to twelve. Our group chose Anton Chekhov, a well-known writer in the late 1800s. We took inspiration from his works and created a story-book of our own. Everyone also has to come with a small activity to keep the children engage and interested. The activity I have created is the board game (seen on the right). It lets users to learn more about Anton Chekhov's life in a fun way.

  • Target audience:  Children aged seven to twelve, with an interest in the theatre.

  • Time frame: It took us about 1-2 months of preparation. The whole process was tiring and tedious, but it was all worth it.

  • Challenges: At first, we had difficulty understanding our target audience, but after researching and looking at case studies, we have found out that children at that age are active and has a low attention span. Thus, we would have to cater to their needs when coming out with the games.

  • Solutions: We spent most of our time researching and making sure that the final product would be fun and educational for the children.

  • Takeaways: My biggest takeaway would be the final product, as we have put in a lot of time and effort into this project. My group and I spent almost every weekend together in order to finish this on time. I have also learnt a lot about children's mind and development. This was a very memorable project for me as I would never expect to learn something like that in this particular course.
